Court summons Taguig doctor over Gigi's transfer

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan on Monday summoned the doctor at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital to explain why he allowed the transfer of Gigi Reyes from the medical facility to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) last Friday night.

Aside from Reyes's attending physician, Dr. Anthony Lontoc, the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division also summoned her lawyer and the jail warden of Camp Bagong Diwa's female dormitory to appear before the court on Tuesday and justify the plunder suspect's sudden transfer to the PHC.

Reyes, the co-accused of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile in the plunder and graft charges in connection with the pork barrel scam, is now confined at the PHC's Coronary Intensive Care Unit after complaining of chest pains.

Reyes was supposed to be detained at the Camp Bagong Diwa's female dormitory, but she was rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital after suffering anxiety attack on Thursday.

Reyes's lawyers last Saturday asked the anti-graft court to allow their client to stay at the PHC "until her medical condition stabilizes and clearance from her doctors is given."

They also reiterated their pleading the Court to let Reyes be detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, where others accused in the pork barrel cases are now detained.

Reyes's lawyers are citing the possible danger on the suspect's life if she is transferred to a common cell at Camp Bagong Diwa's female dormitory.
