Quakes hit Philippines - USGS

HONG KONG (Xinhua) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted 47km ENE of Cortes, Philippines at 19:53: 48 GMT yesterday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 4.04 km, was initially determined to be at 9.3725 degrees north latitude and 126.6145 degrees east longitude.

Another quake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted 29km ENE of Cortes at 18:59: 55 GMT yesterday, the US Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 1.37 km, was initially determined to be at 9.337 degrees north latitude and 126.4561 degrees east longitude.
