NDRRMC : Yolanda deaths rise to 6,300
MANILA, Philippines - Five months after the devastation brought by supertyphoon Yolanda in Eastern Visayas, the state emergency response agency on Thursday reported that the death toll from the calamity has risen to 6,300.
In its latest situational report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that seven more bodies have been recovered from the ruins in Tacloban City.
The NDRRMC, however, said that the number of injured in the Yolanda-hit provinces in the region has been pegged at 28,689. The number of missing remains at 1, 061.
The agency also reported that the more than three million families or over 16 million individuals have been affected by the devastation in Regions 4-A, 4-B, 5, 6,7, 8,10, 11, and Caraga.
Of the affected population, more than 890,000 families or over four million persons were displaced, NDRRMC said.
More than 1 million houses were also destroyed by Yolanda, with almost P90 billion worth of damages to both infrastructure and agriculture sectors, NDRRMC added.
