RH Law advocates to take "cultural" way to lobby to SC

MANILA, Philippines - Supporters of the controversial Reproductive Health Law will take an artistic approach in lobbying to the Supreme Court to lift the status quo ante order on the implementation of the statute.

Percival Cendana of the National Youth Commission said they will mobilize various youth groups to call on the SC justices to rule in favor of the implementation of the law.

"So we're thinking of creative activities so most probably this would involve artists. So we want a very artistic and cultural approach to the lobbying to the Supreme Court," Cendana said on Wednesday.

The High Court justices are set to hold their final deliberations on the RH Law on April 8 in Baguio City.

Cendana said that they hope to mobilize those who have expressed their support for the Purple Ribbon campaign via social media  and attend the activities in Baguio.

"Hopefully, those we mobilize online will also be able to act offline by the joining in this important and historical advocacy kasi this will be a historical vote," he said.

Cendana said that despite the muddling of the issue by the so-called pro-life and anti-RH groups,  proponents of the law are still confident that the High Court will decide on implementing it.

"I think a year is too long to wait. They have to make up their minds now. They cannot hold this in limbo for any much longer," he said.

In the event that the High Court repeals the law, Cendana said they will appeal the ruling.

"We could also go back to legislation pero sana huwag naman," Cendana said, noting that it took the authors of the law more than a decade before it was enacted.
