Authorities plan to visit convicted Pinoy drug mules in China

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities are planning to visit convicted Filipino drug traffickers in a prison in China to gather information on their recruiters.

Arturo Cacdac, director general of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), said they are making arrangements for the trip by the Philippine government representatives.

“We’d like to know who their recruiters were and why they were going to the same destination,” he said.

PDEA spokesman Derrick Arnold Carreon said there are 23 Filipinos detained in a facility in Guangzhou.

“We are still working on the details of the trip and we are coordinating with our counterparts in China,” Cacdac added.

He said the PDEA had written to the Department of Foreign Affairs, which directed them to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to coordinate with its counterpart in China’s Ministry of Public Security.

“We have written to the DILG and we’re still awaiting the response,” Cacdac said.

Cacdac said any information from the detained drug mules would help them in anti-drug trafficking operations.
