GenSan, SCotabato to send aid to Yolanda survivors
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) chapters in General Santos City and South Cotabato will send additional food and non-food items to survivors of typhoon Yolanda in Visayas.
PRC South Cotabato chapter administrator Dixie Villar said on Friday that they are preparing for the delivery of the third batch of relief goods donated mostly by local residents.
He said they are planning to send the relief goods this weekend or early next week. A package of assorted medicine is also bound for Capiz.
The PRC's General Santos chapter and those in Digos City and Davao del Sur earlier agreed to receive the relief items to be delivered in bulk.
“So far, we have around 250 sacks and boxes of used clothing, canned goods, bottled water and other food items that are ready for delivery,†he said.
Villar said there were also 70 sacks of used clothing which can benefit around 200 residents.
"We initially targeted to send them to Palawan but it’s quite difficult to arrange their delivery because of our problem with logistics,†he said.
Villar said they decided to temporarily suspend their relief operations next week to make way for an assessment of relief operations in the affected areas.
