German medical team to help typhoon victims
MANILA, Philippines - A medical team from Germany has arrived in the Philippines to give assistance to the victims of supertyphoon Yolanda that devastated eastern and central Visayas.
The International Search and Rescue Germany, a global non-government organization, will be bringing to typhoon-ravaged areas of Tacloban City, Samar and Capiz medical supplies, businessman Ka Kuen Chua said.
Chua said the group came to the country to help the thousands of residents affected by the powerful typhoon.
"They are 25 in their team who will bring into the areas seven tons of medical supplies," said Chua, who accompanied some of the members at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Chua said the group's members arrived in the country last night.
"Four of their members wanted to fly to Tacloban City to assess the situation first," he added.
The medical mission will also conduct minor surgeries on the wounded persons in the devastated areas. - Dennis Carcamo
