Road mishap spooks whistle-blowers’ escorts

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Guns drawn, security escorts of the six whistle-blowers in the pork barrel scam jumped out of their vehicles yesterday morning on the way to the Senate.

A Nissan Urvan and a Toyota Corolla Altis had collided at the corner of Rajah Sulayman and Roxas Boulevard at around 9 a.m. ANC reported that the security escorts feared it was part of an attempt to harm the whistle-blowers.

But it turned out to be an ordinary traffic accident, according to Stephen Cascolan, one of the lawyers of the whistle-blowers, who are under the Witness Protection Program.

“The security escorts got scared. They were ready for trouble,” said Cascolan, who was not part of the convoy.
