Napoles rushed to hospital

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Businesswoman Janet Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the P10-billion pork barrel scam, was rushed to a hospital before dawn Thursday, an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said Napoles was brought out from her detention cell in Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta.Rosa, Laguna to the Southern Luzon Hospital around 1:20 a.m.

Sindac said the businesswoman compained of pain and of being nauseous.

He said Napoles was with her police escorts and a certain Chief Inspector Rodrin when she complained of pain. He said the businesswoman just continuously vomited.

Sindac said Napoles' attending physician at the police camp allowed her to be brought out of her detention cell to be checked to the hospital.

Initial findings by doctors showed that there was a formation of stones in her ureter which made her sick, the police official noted.

The ureter is the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder.

Napoles said that Napoles' condition has stabilized after the tests and medical treatments given her during the brief stay at the hospital. She was returned to her detention cell at around 3:30 a.m.

Authorities were preparing reports to be submitted to the PNP National Headquarters and the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150, which is hearing the serious illegal detention case filed by Benhur Luy against Napoles.
