MANILA, Philippines - The Coast Guard has completed cleaning the oil spill in eight barangays in Rosario town, Cavite last Tuesday.
The eight barangays are Muzon 1, Muzon 2, Kanluran, Sapa 1, Sapa 2, Sapa 3, Wawa 2, and Wawa 3.
Commander Armand Balilo, Coast Guard spokesman, said they are now set to move to Tanza, and then to Naic and Ternate, all in Cavite.
Some 500,000 liters of diesel spilled into the sea and affected the four towns.
Petron Corp. has acknowledged responsibility for the oil spill and has already apologized.
The Coast Guard adjudication team formed to investigate the incident has asked Petron to explain “why it failed to notify the Coast Guard about the oil spill immediately.â€
Petron was also asked to produce documents such as the quantity of diesel that was transferred and the volume of diesel that the motor tanker M/T Makisig carried.
The adjudication team was not given a deadline to complete its investigation, Balilo said.
