Transit, Sana Dati top Cinemalaya awards

MANILA, Philippines - “Transit” by new director Hannah Espia was the big winner in last night’s award ceremonies in the 9th Cinemalaya Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The film about overseas Filipino workers’ troubles in Israel took eight awards, including best picture in the new breed category, best actress for Irma Adlawan, best cinematography, and best director for Espia.

“Quick Change” won the jury prize in the same category, giving it the second best picture.

For director’s showcase, Jerrold Tarog’s ‘Sana Dati’ dominated the category for veteran directors, wining most of the major awards including best picture. Jeffrrey Jeturian’s ‘Ekstra’ got the jury prize.

‘The Houseband’s Wife’ was best in the shorts.
