‘No hit list vs Reds’

MANILA, Philippines - The government or the military is not keeping a hit list of the 235 most wanted communist rebels, Malacañang said yesterday.

Speaking to reporters, presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said a hit list does not exist.

“What we have is the list of those who have been issued warrants of arrest,” he said. “They are public. These are all public documents. A warrant of arrest is a public document issued by the courts.”

The Anti-Enforced Disappearance Act that President Aquino signed into law last December outlaws the use of an order of battle or similar documents to justify the kidnapping or detention of critics of the government, Malacañang said.
