MANILA, Philippines - Preliminary findings on the alleged secret trust funds of Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and her sons in the British Virgin Islands will be released next Tuesday.
Chairman Andres Bautista of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) said yesterday they aim to find out if Sintra Trust and two other offshore entities that the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) had reported came from the ill-gotten wealth of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Imee did not declare Sintra Trust and two other offshore accounts in her latest statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), the PCIJ said.
Bautista has given the team that PCGG commissioners Maita Chan-Gonzaga and Vicente Gengos Jr. head two weeks to gather additional information and submit their preliminary findings.
The PCGG has coordinated with the Anti-Money Laundering Council in investigating the alleged secret trust funds.
The PCGG learned about the trust fund after meeting with members of the PCIJ a few weeks ago.
A report published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which includes the PCIJ, shows Imee as one of the beneficiaries of Sintra Trust formed in June 2002 in the British Virgin Islands.
