Court sentences 2 Magdalo soldiers to 12 years in jail

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City court on Friday sentenced two members of the Magdalo group to 12 years imprisonment for the so-called Oakwood Mutiny in 2003.

Reports said Judge Andres Bartolome of the the Makati Regional Trial Court branch 148 found former 1st Lt Rex Bolo and former 1st Lt. Lawrence San Juan guilty of coup d'état and mutiny charges.

The 29 other junior officials of the military who were involved in the mutiny were exempted from the charges after they accepted the amnesty offered by the government, reports added.

Among the leaders of the group was former Navy Lt. Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes IV, who is now running for a second term in the Senate. a reelection in the Senate.
