MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said that several senatorial candidates, led by the Liberal Party's Risa Hontiveros, have been given notices to remove illegaly placed campaign posters.
Comelec Chairman Sixtro Brillantes Jr. said that Hontiveros received four notices from the poll body followed by another LP candidate, Bam Aquino, with three notices.
The poll body also sent similar three notices to Antonio Trillanes IV and Francis "Chiz" Escudero with two notices.
The other senatorial candidates, whose posters have been posted outside the allowed areas were Bangon Pilipinas' Eddie Villanueva, Jack Enrile of the United Nationalists' Alliance, administration guest candidate Loren Legarda and UNA's Margarita Cojuangco.
Meanwhile, the poll chief said that taxi operators who have been spotted carrying the commercial advertisements of Escudero will be summoned. He said that the operators' franchise may also be cancelled.
The Comelec has said that it will send subpoenas on party-list groups Piston and Ang Kabataan for ignoring their notices or for failure to remove their illegally placed posters despite the notices from the poll body.
Brillantes said that preliminary investigations of the two party-list groups will start anytime this week.
"Kabataan PL and Piston will also face motu proprio cancellation proceedings of their party-list registration shortly after. I am not joking when I said candidates/party-list groups will be disqualified/cancelled if campaign rules will be disegarded," Brillantes said.
