‘Agusan Marsh should be protected’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Lolong’s death should not stop environmental protection and development of the Agusan Marsh, Agusan del Sur Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza said yesterday.

Plaza stressed the need to preserve the remains of Lolong, the largest saltwater crocodile in captivity, to remind people to protect and conserve the environment.

“I promise that the province will continue with its social and environmental development programs for the Agusan Marsh,” Plaza said.

Plans were set to preserve Lolong’s remains, which would be kept in a park in Bunawan town for tourists to see.

The capture of Lolong in 2011 boosted tourism in the province by 713 percent.

Lolong attracted not only local folk but also foreigners.
