MANILA, Philippines - Kind hearts and generous souls continued to boost the ongoing fund drive of The Philippine STAR’s philanthropic arm, Operation Damayan, for victims of tropical storm “Sendong.” The STAR is currently raising funds to help in the rehabilitation of disaster-stricken areas in Mindanao.
On the heels of widespread damage wrought by Sendong, which unleashed floods that have claimed more than 1,000 lives, relief efforts in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities are expected to last until March 2012.
Thanks to generous donors that continue to send in their donations, The STAR’s Sendong relief fund has thus far raised a total of P925,000, with yesterday’s donations totaling P213,000.
The latest donors to the fund drive include: E. Bros Group Foundation, P50,000; Emicor Inc., P50,000; Alvin Wong, P20,000; East Lane Corp., P20,000; Atty. Lewis Yu, P15,000; Edith Alikpala, P10,000; Yu Siobi Chu, P10,000; Salvacion Magbantay, P7,000; A.G. Combe Tire Supply, P5,000; Scott and Therese Garceau and Marcia Jacinto, P5,000; Chinoy Lao and family, P5,000; Jaime Lim, P5,000; Anonymous (J.B.), P5,000; Dr. and Mrs. Enrico Grecia, P5,000; and Fidelidad Magbantay, P1,000.
The STAR continues to call on kindhearted organizations and individuals to send in their donations to Operation Damayan, which will assist in the rehabilitation of the areas afflicted by Sendong.
