Thank teachers, DepEd tells students

MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of Teachers’ Month this September, the Department of Education (DepEd) has launched a campaign to teach students to say “thank you” to their teachers.

“I think we should regularly take time to revitalize the image of teachers and draw public attention to their value in society,” said Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

This month, students are encouraged to say “thank you” to their teachers by writing a letter, giving a gift or posting a greeting in social networking sites.

“We have many creative ways and various media platforms to be used to express our gratitude to our teachers,” Luistro said.

DepEd likewise enlisted the support of television and radio station anchors, hosts and artists to say “thank you” to their mentors in their respective programs.

Schools are encouraged to run stories on their teachers through their school papers, websites and Facebook accounts.  Luistro said DepEd division and regional offices are also encouraged to gather support from commercial establishments to give discounts and special treats to teachers this month.
