MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay and the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Jiang Shusheng have vowed to strengthen ties and expand trade and economic relations between the two countries through exchange student programs.
Jiang, who paid a courtesy call on Binay over the weekend, is not only looking to expand trade and economic relations with the Philippines, but also promote high-level visits between the two countries.
Binay said China is also confident that a student exchange program will help strengthen relations, as it promotes understanding of values and cultures.
“China grew their GDP (gross domestic product) by 10.3 percent last year despite the many natural calamities that befell their country. The Philippines can really benefit as we improve our trade relations with them,” Binay said, adding that Jiang sees China as a major market potential for the Philippines.
Binay also said that the Chinese government is looking forward to the smooth implementation of major infrastructure projects that they have here in the country.
“China believes these mutual visits are the driving force in forging a better and more active bilateral relation. I believe multi-level exchange mechanisms such as these will enhance friendship between our people,” Jiang said.
Binay said Jiang was delighted over the approval of the exchange program between the two countries, saying the move can promote their unique cultures and ensure that their friendship is carried out by the new generation.
