Palace to GMA: Face Truth Commission

- Aurea Calica -

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang dared former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her allies yesterday to just face the Truth Commission if they were not guilty of any wrongdoing.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said they agreed with the statement of Sen. Franklin Drilon that the petition filed before the Supreme Court questioning the truth body was a sign of fear.

“Yes, because the truth will be bared there (Truth Commission). That will be a good venue for all those who were afraid to speak up before. Now they will have the opportunity to tell the truth,” Lacierda said.

All the documents that were missing before would also be uncovered now and that President Aquino was committed to put a closure to all the anomalies involving officials of the previous administration.

He said all the problems and scandals before must finally have a resolution, especially since the cases did not move in the Office of the Ombudsman.

Lacierda also reiterated that the commission would not include an investigation into the murders of President Aquino’s father, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and his supposed killer, Rolando Galman, on Aug. 21, 1983.
