Basyang's agri damage reaches P191.76 million
MANILA, Philippines - Agricultural damage inflicted by Typhoon Basyang has reached P191.76 million as of yesterday, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Provinces affected by the typhoon are Bataan and Zambales in Region III; Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Quezon in Region IV A; and Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes in Region V.
Quezon province incurred the biggest loss in agricultural assets valued at P145.2 million.
Rizal province suffered damage to vegetables and bananas valued at P26.4 million.
The DA Central Action Center (DACAC) said a total of 2,102 hectares of croplands were affected consisting of rice (1,325 hectares), corn (87 hectares) and high-value commercial crops (HVCC) (690 hectares). Of the total areas affected, 907 hectares were completely damaged.
Lost to the typhoon were 89,116 metric tons of crops, specifically 299 metric tons of palay (P12.97 million), 17 metric tons of corn (P223,938) and 88,799 metric tons of HVCC (P178.23 million).
Damage to fisheries was minimal, only valued at P175,000, in the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes in Region V.
