Ombudsman ready to discuss anti-graft goals with P-Noy

MANILA, Philippines – Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez is ready to discuss anti-corruption and other issues with President Aquino.

Assistant Ombudsman Jose de Jesus Jr. said Gutierrez would feel privileged to receive an invitation from Mr. Aquino.

“She is very supportive of the vision of the President anchored on the slogan ‘kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap’,” he said.

Earlier, Gutierrez had expressed willingness to sit down with Mr. Aquino to present her accomplishments.

She does not feel Mr. Aquino is pressuring her to step down considering that she has a fixed seven-year term that ends in 2012, she added.

Last Wednesday, Mr. Aquino said he is open to talks with Gutierrez.
