MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has received high trust ratings among Metro Manila residents since assuming office on June 30, according to a recent survey done by an independent polling firm.
The survey, conducted by the Makati-based StratPOLLS Inc., showed 54 percent or more than half of adult Filipinos in Metro Manila expressing “full trust” in the new President’s capability and sincerity in fulfilling his campaign promises.
The survey, conducted on July 1, used face-to-face interviews with 500 respondents in eight cities in the metropolis, namely Quezon City, Valenzuela, Pasig, Pasay, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Manila and Makati.
The survey found 37 percent expressing “little trust” in Mr. Aquino, and five percent having “some mistrust.” Three percent of the respondents said they “do not trust” him at all while one percent expressed no opinion.
Mr. Aquino received his highest approval rating in Makati City at 72 percent and the lowest in Manila at 32 percent.
He received 60 percent trust rating in Pasay and Caloocan, 56 percent in Pasig and 48 percent in Quezon City and Las Piñas.
When asked to name at least three topics in his speech that appealed to them the most, 58 percent of the respondents said they liked the part where he ordered a ban on indiscriminate and illegal use of wang-wang (blaring sirens), 54 percent preferred his message against corruption as well as the possible prosecution of corrupt officials in the Arroyo administration, and 52 percent chose his “no more patronage politics” message.
