Villanueva stresses plan to fight corruption

ILIGAN CITY , Philippines  – Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Eddie Villanueva said he has a clear agenda to stomp out massive graft and corruption in the country.

Villanueva said he would implement his vision of “Anim na taon walang korapsyon” (Six years without corruption) once elected by implementing the moribund “Moral Recovery Program” started by former President Fidel Ramos and mobilizing the Commission on Audit (COA), the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice (DOJ) with the help of two composite task forces headed by two undersecretaries and staffed with lawyers and accountants.

“The country is losing some P700 billion a year to corruption and this has caused grinding poverty to the majority of the people, which is the worst form of injustice,” he told a campaign rally here yesterday.

“Not only that, because of corruption, the people are deprived of better basic services like education, medicine, health programs,” he added.

“I will restore work ethic and honesty in government service and establish a viable salary for all government workers for their economic security,” he added.

To keep the people abreast with his timetable in eradicating corruption, Villanueva said he will deliver a monthly State of the Nation Address and remove the power of the president to “impound funds.”
