Nacionalista Party breaks alliance with Kilusang Bagong Lipunan

MANILA, Philippines - The Nacionalista Party (NP) has dissolved its alliance with the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) because of issues internal to the KBL, but Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos remains part of the NP senatorial slate, the NP announced yesterday.

“Inasmuch as the Nacionalista Party-KBL alliance has been questioned, it is now replaced by the adoption of Rep. Bongbong Marcos as a Nacionalista Party official senatorial candidate,” NP spokesman and senatorial candidate Gilbert Remulla said.

On Nov. 20, NP and KBL announced their alliance at the Laurel House in Mandaluyong City.

Because of NP’s alliance with KBL, Rep. Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna and Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela opted out of NP’s senatorial lineup because they do not want to be in the same lineup as Marcos. 

The son and namesake of former President Ferdinand Marcos began his political career at the age of 23 as Ilocos Norte vice governor in 1980.

In 1992, he was elected representative of the province’s second district.

He became Ilocos Norte governor in 1998, serving for three terms.

In 2007, he was elected back to the House of Representatives, where he is now deputy minority leader. During this term, one of the important pieces of legislation he authored was the Philippine Archipelagic Baselines Law or Republic Act 9522.
