'Mar defended GMA in 2005 impeachment case'

- Delon Porcalla -

MANILA, PHilippines - Agusan del Sur Rep. Rodolfo Plaza of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Iloilo Vice Gov. Rolex Suplico of the Nacionalista Party criticized Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II for defending President Arroyo during the first impeachment case in 2005.

Plaza reminded Roxas, the Liberal Party vice presidential aspirant, of his political leanings four years ago.

“Where was Mar Roxas when the country needed him most during the impeachment case against President Arroyo? He did not take a position and remained silent. He was sleeping with his devil and now he is claiming that the fight (elections) is about wrong and illegal,” Plaza said.

“He (Roxas) is now against the government because he is running for higher position,” added Plaza.

Suplico said Roxas and the LP members should look at themselves instead of posturing as the opposition.

“I recall that it was LP that shouted: We love you GMA! Transfer Malacañang to Iloilo!” he said, referring to former Sen. Franklin Drilon.

“It was also the LP House (of Representatives) contingent which defended Mrs. Arroyo during the first impeachment. LP officials have occupied Cabinet positions. LP stalwarts were also involved in the new Iloilo airport scandal. Look who’s talking,” Suplico said.

Plaza said Roxas cooperated and supported the Arroyo administration before.

“He should not hit the government just to advance his personal political ambition because he is trying hard,” Plaza said, adding Roxas should start building his own platform of government and programs, instead of berating even the good programs of President Arroyo.
