MANILA, Philippines - The Office of the Ombudsman is investigating the P750-million noodle feeding program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Assistant Ombudsman Mark Jalandoni said the General Investigation Bureau (GIB) under the Field Investigation Office (FIO), which he heads, will ask the Senate for transcripts of its hearing and check on the corporations involved to establish who participated in the bidding.
“When it came out, I ordered an investigation,” he said. “The probe began as soon as the controversy erupted.”
Jalandoni said FIO-GIB chief Director Silvestro Manuel heads the team of graft investigators.
The panel will ask for the cooperation of Dennis Quido, sales manager of government supplier Kolonwell Trading, he added.
Quido testified on the supposed anomalous purchase of noodles at the DepEd before the Senate committee on education. – Michael Punongbayan
