2 suspected terrorists wounded by own bomb
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two suspected terrorists were injured after the improvised explosive device (IED) they were rigging exploded in a village in Jolo, Sulu, police said yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Julasirim Kasim, Sulu police director, said the wounded suspects were Jadnan Aluk and Nassal Habibuddin.
Kasim said the suspects were reportedly preparing the improvised bomb inside the house of Andil Ulanghutan at Barangay Tibaud when it prematurely exploded at about 5 a.m.
“The two suspects suffered shrapnel wounds and were brought to the Sulu Integrated Hospital,” Kasim said.
He said the suspects are still confined at the hospital but so far, no charges have been filed against them.
He said police authorities are investigating the background of the suspects who could be involved in other recent bombings in the region.
Kasim said the suspects were allegedly responsible for the planting of an IED that exploded outside the building of Zone of Peace and Development last month where two persons were injured.
