MANILA, Philippines – President Arroyo yesterday took a 30-minute break from her heavy workload and watched the first solo fashion show of her designer JC Buendia at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
Wearing a JC Buendia-created cream jacquard silk coatdress, Mrs. Arroyo joined Buendia’s friends and the media in witnessing the designer’s all-white collection of short dresses and men’s suits.
The President immediately left the hotel after the fashion show.
“This is my first solo fashion show and this is part of the Fashion Watch Quartet series,” Buendia said, referring to the ongoing series of fashion shows promoting Filipino designers.
Buendia described his collection as “Princess Diana-inspired dresses.”
“Actually this is a tribute to Princess Diana in commemoration of her 10th death anniversary last year,” Buendia, an avid fan of Princess Diana, said.
Buendia said he was happy that the President was able to grace the event despite her busy schedule.
Buendia has been creating the President’s Filipiniana dresses and pants suits which she wore in some of her state visits.
Buendia’s mother, Corazon, has been his fitting model for the President’s clothes because they have the same figure and most of the time, Mrs. Arroyo couldn’t fit because of her very busy schedule.
