Spy camera found in AFP courtroom where mutineers being tried

-

A spy camera was found in a military courtroom where former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda and former Scout Ranger commander Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and 26 of their men were being arraigned yesterday.

Defense lawyer Vicente Caoile called the attention of the six-man General Court Martial headed by Maj. Gen. Jogy Leo Fojas about the presence of the camera on the ceiling.

The camera was placed at the back of the area allotted for the defense panel.

Caoile pointed out to the court that the installation of any surveillance gadget in any courtroom to document and record any legal proceeding violates an order of the Supreme Court.

Faced with a motion to rule whether it approved the installation of the spy camera, Fojas, court martial chairman, said the court did not know about the camera being placed on the ceiling.

“We have not permitted anybody to install the surveillance camera,” he said. “The court is unaware of it and I am directing whoever installed it to remove it.”

Fojas then ordered military policemen to remove the spy camera.

The court went on recess for lunch without the 28 accused officers being arraigned.
