Dulce Saguisag buried today

-

Former social welfare secretary Dulce Saguisag will be laid to rest today at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City, about a week after a road accident that injured her husband, former senator Rene Saguisag and two others.

Saguisag remains confined at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) after suffering serious physical injuries.

Dulce, 64, died of fatal head and body injuries after the van they were riding was rammed by a dump truck at the intersection of Arnaiz Street and Osmeña Highway in Makati City last Nov. 8.

She died before even reaching the Ospital ng Makati where her dance instructress, Imelda Obong, was also treated for minor injuries.

Former President Joseph Estrada will be among the family’s friends who are expected to attend the funeral following a 9 a.m. Mass at the St. Scholastica’s College chapel in Manila, where Dulce’s remains lie in state.

Her husband and their driver Philip Calvario are slowly recovering from serious physical injuries.

An MMC medical bulletin as of 2 p.m. yesterday said Saguisag “continues to respond well to treatment.” “His neurological status remains very stable and the fluid draining from his chest tube has decreased very much,” the medical advisory said.

Doctors are in the process of weaning Saguisag off the ventilator which has been helping him breathe.

Calvario, meanwhile, “is now on very minimal support from the ventilator machine and his response to neurological stimulation has also improved,” the medical bulletin added.  – Michael Punongbayan
