Ex-gov loses gun to thieves

Former Rizal governor Casimiro Ynares Jr. has added, albeit unintentionally, another loose firearm in the streets after he lost his gun to thieves in Pasig City.

Investigation showed Ynares parked his Mercedes-Benz inside the R33 Car Exchange at No. 31 Meralco Avenue, Barangay San Antonio at about 4 p.m. Sunday without locking the car doors, since the owner of the car exchange is a friend.

Unnoticed, thieves opened the car’s door and took a clutch bag containing a .38 caliber revolver belonging to Ynares and other personal effects.

Returning to his car some 20 minutes later, Ynares found the car’s door open and his clutch bag missing.

Apart from the handgun, the bag also contained Ynares’s gun ban exemption from the Commission on Elections, identification cards, keys and documents.

Ynares reported the incident to the Eastern Police District, which is now investigating the case.

Ynares, a two-term governor of Rizal, did not run for a third term in the last elections in favor of his son, now Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares III.           – Non Alquitran
