A new group of United States Peace Corps volunteers arrived in the Philippines last Saturday, the US Embassy said in a statement yesterday.

The 266th group of Peace Corps volunteers will work on the group’s programs in education, coastal resources management and children, youth and family.

After three months of intensive language and technical training, the new group of volunteers will spend two years living and working in communities in Luzon and the Visayas.

The volunteers will teach English and computer technology alongside Filipino teachers in Department of Education (DepEd) schools and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) universities and colleges.

They will also work with local government units to develop, implement and monitor coastal resource management plans and teach literacy and life skills to marginalized children and youths.

The volunteers will also work to improve the organizational capacity of Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) accredited centers.

This newest group of volunteers will add to the contributions of over 8,000 Peace Corps volunteers who have served in the Philippines since October 1961.
