Labor and Employment Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas said the "no work, no pay" policy will apply on Saturday, Aug. 21, which is a special non-working day.
"Under the law, only those who would report for work are entitled to receive additional 30 percent from their regular daily rate and plus 30 percent for services rendered in excess of eight hours," she said.
Sto. Tomas said if Saturday is the worker’s rest day and he reports for work, he should be paid 50 percent on top of his daily pay, and another 30 percent more if he is made to work in excess of eight hours.
The "no work, no pay" policy applies unless the company has a more favorable means of paying workers for services rendered during a special holiday, she added.
Malacañang has declared Aug. 21 a special non-working holiday to honor Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., who was killed at the Manila International Airport tarmac on that date in 1983.
The two other special holidays are Nov. 1, All Saints’ Day and Dec. 31, which is sandwiched between Rizal Day and New Year’s Day. — Mayen Jaymalin
