Coast Guard has new commandant

-
Commodore Arturo Gosingan is the new commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard.

President Arroyo named Gosingan to the post yesterday in place of Vice Adm. Reuben Lista, who retires today.

Gosingan, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy Class ’76, was a former Coast Guard district commander in Batangas and Palawan.

Before being named commandant, the 52-year-old Gosingan was assigned to the Coast Guard operating forces.

Gosingan is expected to be promoted to vice admiral after he assumes command of the Coast Guard.

The formal turnover rites will be held at the Coast Guard headquarters at Manila’s South Harbor.

Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza and Coast Guard officials are expected to attend the rites.
