Sex raps vs former Antipolo bishop contested

- Sandy Araneta -
Her allegations are untrue and pure blackmail.

Sources told The STAR over the weekend the allegations made by the woman confessant who accused resigned Antipolo Bishop Crisostomo Yalung of having an affair with and fathering a child by her are not true.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed to be a very close friend of the woman accusing Yalung of sexual misconduct.

The source also said a certain Annie Torres, who introduced herself as the woman’s best friend, is lying. "She has no best friend named Annie Torres because we belong to the same group of friends," the source said. "We have no friend named Annie Torres. It could have been this (Annie Torres) who called the newspapers to say that Bishop Yalung didn’t get a prostitute pregnant, rather that the woman came from a rich family."

"I can no longer stomach what she’s been saying," the source said over the telephone. "That’s a total lie. How can this woman become pregnant by Bishop Yalung when they never had any romantic relationship at all?"

The source supported the woman’s statement that she gave birth in June 2002, but added the child could never have been fathered by Yalung.

"Her claims that Bishop Yalung fathered the child are a mere figment of her imagination," the source said. "She’s good at making up stories just to extort money. She’s a hooker who goes out with several men."

"If that child is really Bishop Yalung’s, I’d know, because she enjoys boasting about the men she has had sexual relations with. That woman has had relations with two priests, but she never had that kind of relationship with Bishop Yalung."

The source admitted the woman confessant has been very close to Yalung, mainly because the bishop gave the woman financial assistance for her medical treatment after the woman gypped Yalung into believing she was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

"Bishop Yalung has been giving financial help for her chemotherapy," the source told The STAR.

Yalung resigned his post as bishop of the Antipolo diocese on Dec. 7, 2002 as a result of the scandal. He has been replaced by Bishop Gabriel Reyes, who formally assumed his post last week.

Yalung’s accuser is separated from her husband, who fathered her four-year-old son, the source added.
