Five RP immigration officers to receive training in US

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will be sending five of its top intelligence officers to the US next month to undergo training under an anti-terrorism program, Commissioner Andrea Domingo said yesterday.

Domingo said the US earlier invited the Philippines to the training program, which is aimed at preventing terrorists from using certain countries as entry points for final destinations such as the US and Britain.

She said the five intelligence officers will be staying in Milwaukee for three months and will later be assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after completing the program.

All expenses will be shouldered by the US government, the immigration chief said.

The US has been implementing tighter immigration measures following the Sept. 11 terror attacks on its landmarks in New York City and Washington DC by Muslim extremists of Middle Eastern descent.
