As part of its commitment to the Clean Air Act (CAA), Caltex will officially launch tomorrow its next generation unleaded gasoline, Vortex. The new product is part of a $45 million Caltex refinery upgrade program.
Barry Ashman, general manager for retail of Caltex (Philippines) Inc., said Vortex was among the measures the oil firm had undertaken to comply with the CAA. "Vortex works to clean the engine aside from delivering the maximum performance that has come to be expected of Caltex fuel products. It is certainly much more environment and vehicle-friendly than leaded gasoline," he said.
Vortex required reformulation plus imported additives, but state-of-the-art refinery also involved the installation of a $40 million fuel gas scrubbles and sulfur recovery plant. Part of the investment also went to tank fortifications, gas emission monitoring equipment, repairs, replacements and maintenance of other safety facilities and equipment in the refinery, depot and stations.
But Vortex is among the company's main drives for the CAA. Its two variants, Vortex Gold and Vortex Silver, have already received positive motorists' reviews but Caltex is gunning for an even greater response.
