PNP's TMG again assures 'corruption-free' EDSA traffic

- Mike Frialde -

For the nth time, the Traffic Management Group of the Philippine National Police has vowed "corruption free" enforcement of traffic rules and regulations along EDSA.

TMG director Chief Superintendent Renato Paredes said that the unit is currently implementing new procedures that will positively change the image of police units perceived as corrupt.

In an experiment which started last Monday, the TMG aims to make a "show window" of EDSA, considered the most busy thoroughfare in the metropolis.

The TMG has the main responsibility of enforcing traffic rules and regulations for EDSA's entire stretch from Monumento in Caloocan City to Roxas Blvd. in Pasay City.

Paredes said that under their experiment, "fit and trim" TMG officers in complete uniform will be visible, stationed from Santolan in Quezon City to Magallanes in Makati City.

The officers will keep an eye on reckless drivers and also buses which stop and pick-up passengers in prohibited locations.

"This time, no motorists will be above the law. We will implement traffic rules and regulations along EDSA to the fullest," Paredes said.

Paredes said TMG policemen will be supported by prowl cars that can quickly respond to any incident or emergency.

The TMG has also inked an agreement with the Regional Emergency Assistance Communication Team (REACT) for a joint anti-crime and emergency response program.

Under the agreement, REACT will help the TMG gather information about crimes occurring on the streets and highways nationwide.

REACT will also quickly report to the TMG vehicular accidents for swift rescue and emergency response.
