Sure, there are good men in the Philippine National Police.
Eight of them, in fact, were proud recipients of the 1999 "Dangal ng Bayan" award for exemplary conduct during the 6th PNP Ethics Day celebration at Camp Crame last Friday.
Ombudsman Aniano Desierto presented the awards to the following:
* Senior Superintendent Leoncio Laygo and Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, both of the Central Visayas police;
* Superintendent Candido Casimiro Jr. of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police;
* Superintendent Virgilio Maligaya of the Western Mindanao police;
* Chief Inspector Leo Leuterio of the Southern Mindanao police;
* Inspector Hansel Marantan of the Bicol police;
* SPO4 Constante Median of the Ilocos police; and
* SPO3 Christopher Pacaul of the Southern Tagalog police.
Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, PNP spokesman, said the eight police officers were cited for their exemplary conduct, particularly in law enforcement, crime prevention and control, public safety, internal security operations and police-community relations.
Bartolome said the eight awardees are also automatic nominees for the 1999 Civil Service Commission's "Dangal ng Bayan" award.
The PNP marks its Ethics Day every Jan. 7 to commemorate the ratification of the PNP Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards.
