MANILA, Philippines- Mikey Bustos is known for his comic YouTube videos about everything and anything under the sun, especially when its about the Filipino culture.
But just recently, Bustos made waves in social media because of his cover of the Avicii song, “Wake Me Up.†Unlike any other cover, Mikey used his voice and mouth as musical instruments to generate a complete song.
Due to the remarkable piece, Mikey's unique "Wake Me Up" cover was featured in the US site, Huffington Post and it is now gaining more likes in the video sharing site, YouTube.
“I was completely surprised,†Mikey replied in an email interview with Philstar.com Thursda morning. “Of course it was an honour to receive recognition from a site as acclaimed as Huffington Post. It was a great thing to wake up to this morning for sure.â€
Mikey said that he made the video to take on a challenge in his morning radio show with Mo Twister and Sam Oh.
“I'm a new radio DJ on Magic 89.9 for the morning show, Good Times With Mo Twister, Sam Oh, and Mikey Bustos and every Thursday we have this segment called SUKAPELLA,†he said.
He explained that in this segment “2 of us DJs create popular songs using just our mouths. The listeners vote for who wins. Every week I spend many hours in the recording studio creating my week's Sukapella entry.â€
“I have won every week so far. Hehehe,†he adds.
And since he's technically the undefeated one, Mo challenged him to do Avicii's “Wake Me Up.â€
“The cover took me 7.5 hours to record and have edited,†the DJ said. “The video took 1 day to shoot and edit. The entire thing from start to finish took me 3 days of focused effort.â€
Mikey said the long hours of work on the video was nothing since music and entertainment has always been his passion.
“I love music so it was all worth it even before the recognition. I just love creating unique things for my audience on youtube, radio and internet,†he said.
