MANILA, Philippines —  Soap and toothpaste maker ACS Manufacturing Corp., is powering its operations with clean energy through ACEN Corp.

Through a supply agreement, ACEN RES, the Ayala Group’s retail electricity arm, will transition ACS’ two manufacturing facilities in Laguna to 100 percent renewable energy.

The electricity will be sourced from ACEN’s portfolio of solar, wind and geothermal assets, helping ACS lower emissions from the production of some of the country’s familiar household products.

ACS manufactures household brands “Pride” detergent, “Shield” bath soap and “Unique” toothpaste,

“Our switch to renewable energy for our Laguna plants is a strategic move to align our manufacturing processes with our commitment to the environment,” ACS CEO Mai Supetran said.

The partnership is expected to help ACS cut around 4,270 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions each year. This is roughly equivalent to the amount of emissions absorbed by more than 193,000 trees annually.

“Partnering with a reliable group like Ayala ensures that as we produce quality products for Filipino homes, we are also contributing to a sustainable future for the communities we serve,” Supetran said.

ACS’ shift to clean power was facilitated through the government’s retail competition and open access (RCOA) program and retail aggregation program (RAP).

RCOA allows large electricity consumers with a monthly peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to directly negotiate with their preferred energy supplier, while RAP allows smaller end-users to pool their demand and collectively meet the 100-kW minimum threshold.

“By choosing to switch to 100 percent renewable energy, companies like ACS Manufacturing empower ACEN to continue developing more renewable energy assets in the country,” ACEN senior vice president for market transformation and retail Tony Valdez said.

“We remain committed to helping more eligible customers navigate the RCOA and RAP programs to realize both cost savings and a meaningful reduction in their environmental impact,” he said.

As the country’s leading green energy supplier, ACEN RES continues to strengthen its presence in the retail electricity market, helping more local manufacturers make the switch to renewables.

This supports the national goal of scaling up the share of renewables in the country’s power mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040 from the current 25 percent.
