Malabon offers free rides amid transport strike

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Malabon deployed eight vehicles to provide free rides for commuters affected by the three-day transport strike, which started yesterday.
Transport group Manibela launched the strike to protest the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval assured commuters that the city government is taking measures so as not to disrupt their daily activities.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Malabon police will also be fielded to monitor the situation. Sixty modern jeepneys as well as tricycles and minibuses will continue operating to help mitigate the effects of the strike.
