Lawyers na may ‘ICC experience’ kinuha ni VP Sara

Medialdea at Roque, ‘out’ na sa legal team

MANILA, Philippines — Inihayag ni Vice President Sara Duterte na hindi na parte ng legal team ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sina Atty. Salvador Medialdea at Atty. Harry Roque. May kinakausap na umanong mga abo­gado ang bise presidente na may karanasan umano sa paghawak ng kaso sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kung babalikan, ­unang sinabi ni VP Sara na sina Medialdea at Roque ang makakasama ni Bri­tish-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, na siyang tatayong lead counsel ng dating pangulo.

Sa panayam kay VP Sara noong Martes, Marso 18, sinabi niyang magwi-withdraw si Medialdea sa oras na makausap na niya ang isa pa raw darating na abogado.

“Unang-una, his team is headed by Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, and then … meron pa akong mga kakausapin na mga lawyers ‘no. Meron pang darating na isang abugado, i-interview ko siya para sumali sa team. And then, once maayos na yung team for ICC, magwi-withdraw si Atty. Medialdea kasi meron lang limited na mga slots for lawyers, and we want all the lawyers on board na merong ICC experience,” saad ni VP Sara nang bumisita sa kaniyang ama sa ICC detention facility.

Si Roque naman, ayon kay VP Sara, ay gusto niyang mag-focus sa asylum nito.

“Hindi pa kasi na-establish kung ano yung basis ng pag-stay niya dito sa Netherlands and we don’t want complications ba. Gusto namin nakatutok talaga yung lawyers doon sa kaso and right now he’s, I heard, applying for asylum? He publicly announced that already, so we want him to focus on his asylum and then we want our lawyers to focus on the case,” saad ng bise president.

Matatandaang noong Marso 17 nang isiwalat ni Roque na maghahain siya ng aplikasyon ng asylum sa pamahalaan sa The Netherlands.
