ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Police have confirmed that the Slovak woman found dead on Boracay Island on March 12 was sexually abused.

A result of the autopsy on the body of 23-year-old Michaela Mickova showed trauma from sexual abuse, bruises and a fatal blow to the head.

The medico-legal examination was conducted a day after her body was discovered at an abandoned chapel at Zone 3, Sitio Pinaungon, Barangay Balabag in Boracay.

The report indicated that the cause of death was due to a “blunt force on her head.”

It added that Mickova suffered abrasion and hematoma on her face; contusions on the abdomen, left arm and forearm; abrasions on the right arm and right knee, and hematoma on the left thigh.

Cops eye 4 suspects

Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police chief, said investigators are looking at a fourth suspect behind the murder.

“Initially, we have identified three suspects. But in the follow-up investigation, we found a connection with another man whom she met while going on a stroll on the island,” Wanky said.

He noted that it was this man who urged Mickova to drink buko (young coconut) juice.

“It turned out that the three men knew the man who invited her to drink buko,” Wanky said.

He added that investigators have gathered statements from witnesses and “so far, their testimonies jibed with the evidences we have gathered.”

Mickova’s decomposing body was found two days after she was reported missing.

She had no lower garment but was still wearing her upper clothes, although rolled up.

She had her shoes on and was still carrying her belt bag. Her wallet and mobile phone were missing.

Mickova was found lying face up with her legs spread.

She arrived in Boracay on March 1 to attend the wedding of a Filipina friend.

Wanky said Mickova was supposed to travel to the Philippines with her Egyptian boyfriend, who is a friend of the Filipina’s husband.

However, Mickova had to travel alone after her boyfriend was denied a Philippine visa.

Investigation showed that Mickova and her friends stayed in different hotels and that the area where her body was found was about a kilometer from where she was billeted.

Wanky stressed that the incident is an isolated case, “considering this is not common and it’s the first case that happened on the island.”

“We assure the public that Boracay Island remains a safe and secure destination, with law enforcement authorities committed to maintaining peace and order,” he said.
