WATCH: And sing along to Coco Martin’s ‘Tagumpay’ hymn for the Filipino spirit

MANILA, Philippines — From “Juan dela Cruz” to “Ang Probinsiyano,” Coco Martin has portrayed titular roles in television shows that rightfully made him the“King of Primetime.” But before he rose to fame, the actor had his share of hardships in life.

He helped his grandmother earn a living at such a young age. He paid for his own schooling and worked odd jobs. He then entered independent cinema and worked his way to the mainstream. All these trials eventually led to his triumph.

As a true inspiration, the actor aptly sings “Ating Tagumpay” in honor of the grit, courage and determination of every Juan dela Cruz to do great things. Whether a laborer, a call center agent, an overseas Filipino worker, a driver or a traffic enforcer, name it, everything is possible.

Celebrate these milestones big or small with Coco and Emperador by singing along to “Ating Tagumpay”—even while on the streets of Metro Manila!

The lyrics of "Ating Tagumpay" are now on billboards along EDSA, from North Avenue to Taft Avenue Stations of the MRT. Released

Eto tayo ngayon

Sama-samang umaahon

Kapit-kamay sa bawat hakbang

Malayo nang inabot

Ng iyong diskarte’t galing

At kung sabay ang paglakbay

Tiyak ang ating tagumpay

Ang galing ng Pilipino iwagayway

Ibang klase ang talino

Tapang ay walang kapantay

Sa sipag mo’t tyaga

Umaangat buong bansa

At ating tagumpay

Ito ang ating tagumpay

Patuloy silang humahanga

Sa sipag mo angat sa iba

Alay ang buong puso

Yan tayo Pilipino

Ang pinoy ay magaling

Tuktok ay nararating

At kung watawat ang gabay

Tiyak ang ating tagumpay

Ang galing ng Pilipino iwagayway

Ibang klase ang talino

Tapang ay walang kapantay

Sa sipag mo’t tyaga

Umaangat buong bansa

At ating tagumpay

Ito ang ating tagumpay

Ang galing ng Pilipino iwagayway

Ibang klase ang talino

Tapang ay walang kapantay

Sa sipag mo’t tyaga

Umaangat buong bansa

At ating tagumpay

Ito ang ating tagumpay

Indeed, Coco proves that everyone—no matter what their backgrounds or circumstances in life are—can work hard to be successful in life.

And now that he savors the fruits of his labor, he also makes sure to share his blessings to giving them opportunities as well.

“Every time na may mga artista kaming nabibigyan ng second chance in ‘Probinsyano,’ I always remember that when I was starting, nobody gave me money but only opportunities. That’s the most important; ‘yung bibigyan ka ng opportunity. So when I see people winning in contests at bagay sa role, I give them a chance sa ‘Probinsyano’,”he said in an interview with The Philippine STAR’s Ricky Lo.

Now, that’s the spirit of a Filipino.
