MANILA, Philippines — Despite the resignation of veteran director Erik Matti, Angel Locsin, who was originally cast in the starring role of the upcoming fantasy film “Darna,” is confident that the new version of the film based on a Filipino comic book character, with Liza Soberano as lead, will be very beautiful and worth the wait.
In response to Liza’s ABS-CBN interview in which she said she is hoping to make Locsin proud with her “Darna” depiction, Angel said she is already proud of Liza.

“Kasi nag-usap kami before, nasabi nga n’ya na kinakabahan s’ya. Pero s’ya talaga ‘yung first choice ko, sinabi ko sa kanya. Alam kong kayang-kaya n’ya talaga!”
Liza has recently been receiving rave reviews for her sexier “Darna” body.
Angel said she researched about past Darnas, so she knows Liza will give a unique spin on the superhero.
She believes her own contribution to the character is being the first Darna featured in a modern TV series in 2005. Lorna Tolentino was reportedly the first to portray the character in a TV series back in 1977.
“Bawat pelikulang napanood ko, may iba-iba silang pinakita. So wala talagang iisang Darna. Bawat isa sa kanila binigyan nila ng bagong flavor,” Angel enthused.
“So itong si Liza, she’s very blessed, ang dami n’yang reference and ang dami na ring bagong technology ngayon, so abangan n’yo. I think magiging sobrang ganda ng Darna!” — Video by Kat Leandicho
