MANILA, Philippines – GMA Network, Inc. chairman Felipe Gozon, Sen. Sonny Angara and Dingdong Dantes of the National Youth Commission were guests of honor at the civic project of giving away 30,000 pugon-baked, artisanal pandesal bread in the first-ever World Pandesal Day last Oct. 16 at the 76-year-old Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Quezon City. Kamuning Bakery Cafe owner Wilson Lee Flores also pledged to donate a two-classroom public school building to recently typhoon-hit Cabanatuan City.
Gozon, Angara and Wilson started the project at 9 a.m. by first presenting the biggest pugon-baked pandesal to 12 public school teachers of Quezon City High School, Kamuning Elementary School and People of Grace School. Dingdong joined in the whole day gift-giving project in the afternoon. Assisted by Catholic and Protestant churches, nearby public schools and NGOs, Kamuning Bakery Cafe and the special guests gave away 30,000 bread, chocolate drinks, soaps, shampoos and conditioners.
Two days after the World Pandesal Day when Cabanatuan City ordered pandesal packs for relief efforts during Typhoon Lando, Kamuning Bakery Cafe added its own bread donations and told Mayor Jay Vergara that it is donating a public schoolbuilding to the city’s worst-hit barrio. Almost 91 percent of Cabanatuan City was affected by typhoon floods.
Kamuning Bakery Cafe is located at No. 43 Judge Jimenez Street cor. K-1st St., Kamuning, Quezon City since 1939.
