MANILA, Philippines – Trend Spotters: The Essential Names in Spanish Fashion, a photographic and audio-visual journey on outstanding designers in the Spanish fashion industry during the past four decades, is ongoing at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB).
The Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and CentroCentro are presenting the exhibit, in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes and the DLS-CSB.
It opened last Oct. 22 at the college’s School of Design and Art Campus Amphitheater. It will be on view until Dec. 4.
Curated by Madrid-based sociologist, journalist and fashion critic Pedro Mansilla, the show features 67 images and 20 audio-visual documentaries on and interviews with the designers. It takes a look at 67 giants in Spanish fashion, from Adolfo Dominguez to Vittorio & Lucchino. Popular names and brands, such as Balenciaga, Loewe, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and Pedro del Hierro, can be found among the roster of distinguished names. It stems from a widely
received showing in Spain. It is now being toured around the world.
Prior to the exhibition in Manila, it was staged in Jakarta, Indonesia. Alongside this, students of DLS-CSB School of Design and Arts Architecture Program have organized a separate presentation as a reaction to the Trend Spotters show. The 12 best pieces submitted by freshmen taking up the theory subject Architectural Design Principles integrate fashion and architecture into a unique architectural object.
