MANILA, Philippines – Derek Ramsay appeals to medical representatives to let them prove that they’re not stereotyping their profession in their movie "Ex With Benefits."
“We don’t want to offend anyone,” Derek said at the press conference of his film “Ex with Benefits” on Staurday. “This movie is not about medreps or trying to stereotype medreps. We have respect for medreps and what they do.”
The actor's statement came a number of netizens reacted on how medical representatives were portrayed in the movie based on its trailer.
In the movie, Arki, portrayed by Coleen Garcia, is a top medical representative and was tasked to deal with a top rated doctor who happens to be her ex, Adam (Ramsay). On the process of gaining his trust, they ended up having a sexual relationship.
Although Derek admitted that “at first I felt why are we judging? We shouldn’t be making assumptions. Sana panoorin muna nila ‘yong pelikula and then if they still feel that way, then we can give our explanation.”
“But I’m telling you now, kung papanoorin nila ‘to wala na silang i-a-address,” he added.
Derek talked to members of the press to promote "Ex With Benefits," which will open in theaters on September 2.
The TV5 actor also shared that he is currently "very happy" with his relationship with non-showbiz girlfriend Joanne Villablanca. This, he said, is the reason why he is now more open about his romance with the commercial model.
Joanne is 26 years old and has an eight-year-old daughter. Derek himself has a son from a previous relationship.

The Kapatid actor said he’s very happy to have a good relationship with Joanne's daughter. "She looks like Angelica Panganiban when she was young," she said.
This statement made the entertainment press tease her about his ex-girlfriend Angelica. To this, Derek responded with a smile.
When asked what he’ll do if he accidentally meets Angelica, he replied: “I have no problem. I don’t know [with her], I can’t speak on her behalf. I haven’t talked to her in a long time. Pinalaki ako na may respeto sa girl. If she doesn’t want to speak to me, let’s respect her.”
Still, Derek said he still hopes that they’ll be in good terms someday.
